Council Officers role call
X
Reading of the Minutes. Motion to accept the business meeting
minutes was put forward. The motion past by the membership.

There were no new candidates this month.
X
In attendance was our District Deputy Joe Sendlback.
X
The first order of business was to elect a new Chancellor.
Nominations were opened and Joseph Smith was nominated for the office of
Chancellor. His nomination was seconded. A motion was made to close the
nominations. A vote of the membership was taken and Joseph Smith was
elected Chancellor.
Grand
Knight’s Report:
X
The State Midyear Meeting will be held in Greenville, N. C. on
Saturday January 19th. Bill Wolf, Bernie Brown, Tom Smith and
Dave Demo will attend. One subject will be tax reporting.
X
June 2008 will be the 20th anniversary of our
council. It was suggested that we arrange a mass in honor of the event with
knights serving as lectors. The date of Saturday June 21 at 5:30 pm was
suggested, but Bill Wolf will coordinate a date with the church staff. It
was suggested that Msgr. Lewis be contacted and all charter members be
invited.

There were recommendations for our RSVP budget. Ed
Cody recommended two novitiates whose names he received from Sister
Veronica. Sister Veronica is a Sister of the Holy Cross who teaches at SRCS.
He candidates were Miriam Nohemi Arizpe Paredes and Patricia Rodriguez
Leal. John Gunther received a name of a candidate from Sister Dolly. A
motion was made that we support each of these three novitiates with a $500.
The motion was seconded and carried.
Treasurer’s
Report:

It was decided to increase the scholarship commitment to St,
Raphael’s School to $4,500 to account for the increase in tuition. This
would cover the tuition for one in-parish student. The check has been
written and arrangements will be made by Bill Wolf for the format
presentation to the faculty of the school.

All RSVP monies, $1,000 have been distributed and $500 from
last year has been distributed.

Secretary’s Report:

We need brothers for the District Second Degree team so that
we can be self-sufficient. Please contact Tom Smith if you are interested.
X
We also need brothers to learn the parts for the Council First
Degree Team. We especially need someone to learn the part of Grand Knight.
Please contact Tom Smith.

Programs:
X
Bernie Brown asked for volunteers to help with the Free Throw
contest which will be held on Saturday February 16th at the hoops in the
parking lot at the entrance to the school. Since we are the only council
having the contest in our District, this event will also serve as the
District Competition.

The St. Patrick’s Day dinner is on schedule per Ed Coy. The
price is $25/person and limit is 300 people.

Bernie Brown attended the Mid-year meeting at Greenville, NC
along with Tom Smith. Bernie brought back some information about Op Lamb
and the State Raffle.

Business:

The first Fish Fry/Shrimp Boil was held on Friday February 8th.
Approximately 180 dinners were sold, 100 fish and 80 shrimp. Suggestion
should be directed to John Gunther. We were asked to use plastic ware and
paper plates so as not use the dishwasher during the draught. We will
hopeful get a reporter from the N&O to get us some publicity.

John Gunther reported “Senior Prom”, a social event for those
over 50 years old, has been scheduled for May 10th in Raphael
Hall.

The St. Patrick’s Day dinner is on schedule per Ed Coy. The
tickets have been printed. There will be Atrium sales and a notice will be
in the bulletin. The price is $25/person and limit is 300 people.

Tom Smith is looking for bowler to go to the KofC Bowing
tournament in Norfolk, VA on April 18, 19 and 20. He is looking to put
together a 5 man team. Contact Tom Smith.

Mark Parrish reported about the planned Mother’s Day flower
sale. Monies will be used for a donation to Project Gabriel. Mark is
planning to buy single roses for sale at the masses on the weekend of May 10th.
Please contact Mark to volunteer to help with this project.
New
Business:

State Raffle tickets are now available. They will be
available for 60 days. Prizes are trips and cash. For every ticket sold by
the Council, one half stays with the Council. Tickets are $5.00 each. Tom
Smith has contacted the St. Raphael’s Youth Group and made an agreement that
for every ticket they sell, they can have $1.00 for their events.

The next Pancake Breakfast will be held on Sunday February 17th.
X
A letter was received from Sister Dolly Glick thanking us for
the RSVP donation to Sister-in-Formation Asdruanny Garcia. It was read by
John Gunther at the meeting. Her letter will be published in the Knightlife
for all to read.

The State Convention for 2008 will be held May 2, 3, and 4 in
Asheville. We need to discuss if the council should enter our newsletter
and/or sponsor an ad in the program.
X
Bernie Brown asked if it was possible to get our insurance
agent to come to one or our meetings. We have not had visit for some time.
X
We have been asked by St. Raphael’s School to donate the food
for the Honor Student Breakfast to be held on Wednesday, February 11th.
Tom Smith will coordinate this with the school.
X
A Red Cross blood drive has been scheduled for Sunday, May 11th,
from 11am to 4pm in Raphael Hall. Please contact Frank Castillo to give
blood or to be a volunteer to help with administration.
X
Frank Castillo asked for the councils help to serve food at
the Scout Pack #314 annual Blue and Gold dinner to be held Saturday February
23rd. He needs 6-8 knights to help. Please contact Frank if you
are interested.

Frank also is in need of judges to judge the Pinewood Derby
cars before the race, which will be held at Raphael Hall on the morning of
Saturday February 23rd. Please contact Frank if you can
volunteer.
Fourth
Degree Report:
X
Gilbert reminded everyone that there were openings available
for the Valentine’s Day Dinner for the Fourth Degree Knights on Sunday,
February 17th.
District
Deputy Report:
X
Joe Sendlback with talk to our KofC insurance agent and
arrange for a visit at an upcoming meeting.
X
He also reminded us that New Members Policies are now
available to recent new members.
