Business Meeting Minutes August 14, 2007

X      Meeting called to order at 7:30 PM

X      Council Officers role call

X      Reading of the Minutes.  Motion to accept the business meeting minutes was put forward.  The motion past by the membership.

 

Candidates for Membership:

X      The names of two candidates were submitted: Lou Pappalardo – Reinstatement and Jimmy Martin – Transfer from Louisiana.

X      A motion was made to accept them into membership.  The motion was seconded and carried.

 

Grand Knight’s Report:

X      The schedule of future Pancake Breakfasts and Blood Drives are on hold until the Faith Formation schedule is decided.

X      The council will sponsor a BBQ Booth at the Parish Fair. The Fair will be Friday Sept 5th, 5pm-11pm and Saturday Sept 6th, 11am-11pm.  We will need 2 shifts of 3 volunteers on Friday and 4 shifts of 3 volunteers on Saturday.  Contact Tom Smith or Bill Wolf for details.

X      A 1st Degree is being held at St. Luke’s.  Details are not yet available.

X      A Third Degree will be held on September 29 at St. Michael’s in Cary.

X      The “Rite to Life” bike ride was held on August 4th.  Knights from St. Raphael’s and St. Eugene’s worked to feed and transport riders.

X      Patrick McGlaughlin, whom we will sponsor as part of RSVP this year, was featured in an article in the Raleigh News & Observer.

X      Knight of the Month:  Jim Lueck – Installation Dinner

X      Family of the Month:  Rick Gall – Guest Lecturer at the Grand Knight Convention, “Handling the Media”; and leading Capital Towers in lieu of Bill Hast.

X      Several new ideas have been suggested for Social Events.  One was to sponsor an event at Monday Night Football at Raleighwood and the other was to sponsor a Family Day at Pullen Park.

 

Treasurer’s Report:

X      A check for last year’s raffle had to be reissued.

X      Balances can be obtained from Ed Cody.

 

Financial Secretary’s Report:

X      We collected $100 for dues and $30 for shirts that were in inventory.

X      $300 in expenses was submitted.  The majority was for the flag pole which will be used in front of Raphael Hall.

X      The audit is ready to be signed.

 

Trustee’s Report:

X      None

 

Service Programs:

X      Capital Towers Project was held on Saturday August 4th. Five Knights participated helping 12 different seniors in the complex.

X      Dave Demo reported that Operation Lamb 2007 will be held on Sept. 21, 22 and 23 and October 12, 13, and 14.  We will solicit at the Harris Teeter at Spring Forest and Falls of Neuse, K-Mart at Strickland and Six Forks, and possibly Wal-Mart on New Hope Church.  We will be working 2-hour sessions this year.  We need volunteers.  The schedule will be posted in the Knightlife.

 

Old Business:

X      John Gunther reported the Knights Bowling will hold an organizational meeting on Monday August 20th, at 6:30 pm at Pleasant Valley Lanes.   All bowlers should contact John for more information.  They are looking to have 3 – 4-man teams for a 28 week season.

X      The flag pole which was purchased has to be installed.

X      We will be planning the construction of the Knight’s storeroom in the Utility Building.

 

New Business:

X      None

 

 

Fourth Degree Report:

X      Tom Dupree, Fourth Degree, Faithful Navigator, was a guest at our meeting.

X      Tom reported about several upcoming functions.

X      A picnic will be held at Father Price Clubhouse on Sunday August 19th at 4:00 pm.  All Knights and their families are welcome.

X      The Knight’s have been asked to provide an Honor Guard for the dedication of the Martin Luther King statue in Rocky Mount on Saturday August 25th.

X      The 4th Degree Exemplification will be held in Concord on October 20th.

 

K of C Insurance Field Agent:

X      Richard Keyser is the new Field Agent assigned to our Council.  He attended our meeting and introduced himself.  He reported that the percentage of insurance membership averages between 15% and 25%.  Our Council’s goal this year is to add 4 insurance members in order to gain recognition as a Star Council.  He encouraged support by joining under a new member policy which is $50/year.

A “Rosary Check” was called by the Grand Knight.  Many Knights had their rosaries.  Good Job!!
