Boy
Scout leader Robin Jewett was presented with the District Award of Merit from
the Falls District of the Occoneechee Council of the Boy Scouts of America on
December 4th. The award honors a volunteer or professional for
service beyond normal expectations. Mr. Jewett was recognized for over 33 years
of international scouting and his service to youth. Since 1975, Mr. Jewett has
served as a scout leader in the U.K., Brazil, and the United States. He has
been affiliated with Troop 314 from St. Raphael Catholic Church in Raleigh since
1990 and has served the troop in the positions of Scoutmaster and Assistant

District. Mr. Jewett is the second leader from Troop 314 to receive this high
honor. David Pederson, who joined the troop in 1996 and served as Scoutmaster
for over ten years, received the District Award of Merit in 2004. Mr. Pederson,
an Eagle Scout himself, is the National Eagle Scout Association Committee
Chairman for the Occoneechee Council, and currently serves Troop 314 as an
